Abstract

Technological advancements have led to a digital era where social media platforms are being used by international news agencies in news production, while also giving opportunity to its users to provide prompt feedback. In contemporary times, when COVID-19 pandemic has taken over the world, global news agencies are also using social media platforms, like Facebook, to disseminate COVID-19 related news. On Facebook, feedback is the determinant of quality or worth of news which resultantly ascertains the value of a news agency which provides that particular news. Thus, the value of a news agency increases with its followers, likes, comments and shares. Feedback has become more important than the actual news. Thus, the current research is conducted is to compare and contrast feedback and users’ interaction on COVID-19 news Facebook posts of international news agencies. The objective of this study is; to assess the frequency of feedback on Facebook of each selected news agency, to categorize comments under pre-identified themes and also to identify which COVID-19 related news posts received the most feedback.
