Disaster caused by COVID-19 Pandemic and Lockdown: An Overview of Indian Women's Condition2021 •
The exponential increase in COVID-19 infections along with containment measures to control the pandemic has started showing their disastrous implications on economy, health, education and work conditions of the society. However, the marginalized sections of the society including women are worst affected but least talked about. Recognising the unique niche of men and women in the Indian societal setup, it is warranted to explore the gendered implications in the context of the disaster caused by COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. This may help in developing effective, equitable policies and interventions for the target groups. The present study, therefore, seeks to examine how the conditions of women in India are being affected by this crisis. It discusses the potential vulnerabilities of women from different sections of society, which if not addressed in time could transform into serious personal as well as socioeconomic problems. The observations can be used by policymakers, researchers, academicians and other stakeholders to identify and fill the gaps to achieve the broader goal of gender equality in the society and flatten the trajectory in the process.

A district-level susceptibility and vulnerability assessment of the COVID-19 pandemic's footprint in India2020 •
In this study, we trace the COVID-19 pandemic's footprint across India's districts. We identify its primary epicentres and the outbreak's imprint in India's hinterlands in four separate time-steps, signifying the different lockdown stages. We also identify hotspots and predict areas where the pandemic may spread next. Significant clusters in the country's western and northern parts pose risk, along with the threat of rising numbers in the east. We also perform epidemiological and socioeconomic susceptibility and vulnerability analyses, identifying resident populations that may be physiologically weaker, leading to a high incidence of cases and pinpoint regions that may report high fatalities due to ambient poor demographic and health-related factors. Districts with a high share of urban population and high population density face elevated COVID-19 risks. Aspirational districts have a higher magnitude of transmission and fatality. Discerning such locations can allow targeted resource allocation to combat the pandemic's next phase in India.
In the coming weeks, South African policymakers will continue to make critical decisions to curb the spread of COVID-19 and reduce its economic impact. In collaboration with the National Development Agency, IDinsight prepared a brief to inform decision-making in two areas of interest for the Department of Social Development: 1) promoting healthy community behaviors, and 2) providing social protection to vulnerable populations.

India's COVID-19 Episode: Resilience, Response, Impact and Lessons2020 •
Despite the commonality of loss of lives, every pandemic has played a role in shaping the socio-economic and public health outcomes depending on the nature and the magnitude of the outbreak. In this study, we have attempted to make a preliminary assessment of COVID-19 impact on India and commented on the country’s resilience, response, impact and draw the lessons for the future. Although lockdown was necessary to stop the transmission, is showing and will show a greater impact on all spheres of human life considering the country’s poor resilient socio-economic institutions. Our concurrent assessment in the middle of the outbreak predicts that the socio-economic, demographic and health costs in India would be much higher than developed countries. Initiation of timely action from the very beginning (when the first case reported in Kerala) could have plummeted the potential transmission in every corner of the country to a large extent and could have avoided socio-economic crises that presently surfaced in the country. The study provides a strong message for initiating sector-specific measures alongside relief packages to reduce the damage not only for now but also to build a resilient system for socioeconomically vulnerable groups, health care services, and education infrastructure to face future pandemics. Otherwise, the pandemic like this can cost more.

Impact of COVID-19 on the social, economic, environmental and energy domains: Lessons learnt from a global pandemic2021 •
COVID-19 has heightened human suffering, undermined the economy, turned the lives of billions of people around the globe upside down, and significantly affected the health, economic, environmental and social domains. This study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the ecological domain, the energy sector, society and the economy and investigate the global preventive measures taken to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. This analysis unpacks the key responses to COVID-19, the efficacy of current initiatives, and summarises the lessons learnt as an update on the information available to authorities, business and industry. This review found that a 72-hour delay in the collection and disposal of waste from infected households and quarantine facilities is crucial to controlling the spread of the virus. Broad sector by sector plans for socio-economic growth as well as a robust entrepreneurship-friendly economy is needed for the business to be sustainable at the peak of the pandemic. The socio-economic crisis has reshaped investment in energy and affected the energy sector significantly with most investment activity facing disruption due to mobility restrictions. Delays in energy projects are expected to create uncertainty in the years ahead. This report will benefit governments, leaders, energy firms and customers in addressing a pandemic-like situation in the future.
