Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic that has plagued the world to date is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). This has huge implications for social, economic, and educational issues. Thus, to prevent the dispersion of this virus, the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) has decided to implement online based teaching and learning sessions. Hence, this new experience of online learning has been said to contribute to stress among students, whose symptoms are divided into physical, psychological, mental, and behavioural disorders. Accordingly, this study investigates the comparison of stress symptoms among huffāẓ in the groups of Bachelor of Qira’at undergraduates. These respondents are students from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) and Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS). Data collection is based on questionnaire instruments and descriptive analysis methods. The findings of the study indicate that the symptoms of stress between the two institutions are at different levels. The USIM respondents showed the level of their stress symptoms is at a moderate level by noting that all three constructs (physical, psychological, and mental) are at a moderate level, but the construct of stress symptoms in the behavioural aspect is at a high level. Meanwhile, for the KUIS respondents, the overall analysis was at a low stress level, with all four constructs scoring low. The finding suggests that stress levels are influenced by environmental conditions, circumstances, and the individual's own self-perceptions. As a conclusion, good stress management is an essential element for students’ development in line with Islamic principles.

Zainora Daud, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), MALAYSIA

She was born in Merlimau, Melaka. Received her early education at Sekolah Kebangsaan Serkam and later to secondary school at Ma’ahad al-Ehya al-Karim, Tanjong Bidara and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Sharifah Rodziah, Telok Mas, Melaka. She furthered her study to Darul Quran, JAKIM  and obtained Diploma Tahfiz al-Quran and al-Qiraat, JAKIM.  She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in the field al-Quran and al-Hadith Studies from Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya. She pursued Master’s Degree in Islamic Studies at  Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. And she has succesfully completed her PhD in the field al-Quran and al-Qiraat from Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya. Among her research field are al-Quran Studies in Tahfiz, al-Qiraat and Tafsir. She has produced article and conducted research project related to her fields.
