Abstract

The analysis here is driven by the following research question: What were the effects of COVID-19 on teaching at Austrian universities? The attempt was to find evidence-based answers. As an empirical conclusion, it can be discussed that COVID-19 acted as an accelerator of digitalization processes for teaching at Austrian universities. Digitalization includes IT, but requires also pedagogical developments. Digitalization encourages sustainable and innovative designs for the organization of teaching at universities, for example via the combination of teaching in “presence formats” (face-to-face) and “online formats”, being it “hybrid” (synchronous settings) or in terms of “blended learning” (asynchronous settings).
