ABSTRACT
Objective: The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic had a major impact on educational activities. The aim of the present study was to determine the changes in physiotherapy educational activities during the pandemic. The average number and duration of physiotherapists' attending congresses/ courses/conferences before and after the pandemic were questioned. Furthermore, the most essential advantages/disadvantages of e-learning were also discussed. Material and Methods: The evaluation questionnaire was delivered via Google forms to actively working physiotherapists. Participants were contacted through the researchers' close circle and the Turkish Physiotherapists Association e-mail network. The study included 158 (111 female, 47 male, age range: 21-55 years) actively working physiotherapists during the pandemic. Results: It was determined that individuals showed a statistically significant decrease in the average number of attendance at professional educations during the pandemic compared to the pre-pandemic period (p<0.001). It was found that during the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a statistically significant decrease in the average time spent participating in face-to-face professional educations compared to the pre-pandemic period (p=0.004). The most important advantages of e-learning compared to face-to-face learning, according to 58.2% of the participants, were found as 'access to students who don't have opportunity to attend face-toface courses' and according to 51.9% of the participants were found as 'reduction in vocational education expenses'. The most significant disadvantage of e-learning was indicated by 66.5% as 'limitations in the practice of clinical trainings' and by 52.5% as 'some of the individuals cannot access the required technology for educational activities'. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic affects physiotherapists' learning habits, participation in educational platforms/practices, as well as several habits and routines. It is predicted that the 'new normal period' would result in major differences in the educational practices of physiotherapists, as well as the formation of some new procedural patterns, durations, and methods of continuing educational activities.
