The purpose of this article is to illustrate and analyse the decisional practice of the European Commission in assessing during the pandemic outbreak airport State aid schemes, based on Article 107(3)(b) of the Treaty Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) and on Article 107(2)(b) TFEU on compensation for damage due to natural disasters and extraordinary events. In this context, it is argued for the necessity of adoption of broader considerations by the European Commission (hereinafter the Commission) in determining the causality between the damage and the pandemic as well as for defining the relevant compensation period.
