During the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19)] pandemic, an increasing number of patients need invasive mechanical ventilation and hence tracheostomy opening due to prolonged mechanical ventilation. Although there is no clear timing for tracheostomy in this group of the patients, it is recommended to open it after 14 days. It is not known whether percutaneous or surgical tracheostomy is superior to each other or if it is different in terms of the risk of transmission. However, it is necessary to pay attention to a number of steps that will reduce contamination during both processes. This review was written to indicate the points to be considered in tracheostomy applications in COVID-19 patients.

Koronavirüs hastalığı-2019 [coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19)] pandemisi sırasında giderek artan sayıda, hastada invaziv mekanik ventilasyon ihtiyacı ve uzamış mekanik ventilasyona bağlı olarak da trakeostomi açılma gereksinimi ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu grup hastalarda, trakeostomi açılması için net zaman belirtilmemekle birlikte, 14 günden sonra açılması önerilmektedir. Perkütan veya cerrahi trakeostominin birbirlerine üstün olup olmadıkları veya bulaş riski açısından farklı olup olmadıkları bilinmemektedir. Ancak her 2 işlem sırasında da bulaşı azaltacak birtakım basamaklara dikkat edilmesi gereklidir. Bu derleme, COVID-19 hastalarında trakeostomi uygulamalarında dikkat edilecek noktaları belirtmek amacıyla yazılmıştır.
