Abstract

Africa as a continent has had its worst share of disease burden, coupled with poor and weak health systems, high mortality rates have been a frequent fixture. Epidemics have also been common place but the continent has not experienced a pandemic the magnitude of the Spanish flu until the advent of COVID-19, an elusive and highly infectious virus. Countries have taken unprecedented steps to protect their citizens from the pandemic; most are counting on their regional partnerships to be able to combat the outbreak on a united front as in the case of East Africa.
