Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to examine the adverse effects of COVID-19 pandemic on
public participation and governance in Nigeria, with focus on identifying the reasons for these
adverse effects. The paper submits that the main issues around the pandemic, that has triggered
it more is the lack of adequate preparation by various governments of the world, Nigeria
inclusive to combat the health issue of such magnitude. This is mainly a qualitative paper; hence
no primary data will be used. Among the key recommendations, is that various government all
over the world, including Nigeria should be more proactive and be adequately prepared for such
health challenges in the future by deploying the very best scientific tools to combat the health
menace, with adequate financial back up.
