This study was conducted with the aim of confirming the effect of self-esteem and depression in the COVID-19 era and verifying the mediating effect of exercise period and physical self-efficacy. Data onself-esteem, exercise period, physical self-efficacy, and depression were collected from 253 employees in charge of facility expenses at private security companies located in Gyeonggi-do and Chungcheongnam-do. The survey tool used a questionnaire, and technical statistics, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, and multiple parameter analysis were conducted using SPSS window 22.0 and PROCESS Macro programs, and bootstraps were conducted to verify the significance of indirect effects. The following conclusions were obtained through the above research procedure.
First, it was found that self-esteem had a significant negative (-) effect on depression.
Second, it was found that physical self-efficacy had a mediating effect on the influence of self-esteem on depression, and the exercise participation period did not have a mediating effect.
In this study, the identification of the path through which private security guards’ physical self-efficacy mediates the relationship between self-esteem and depression suggests that not only self-esteem but also physical self-efficacy can lower the level of depression of private security guards.
