Abstract

Measuring the peritraumatic distress may help understand the psychological consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. For that cause, a self-report questionnaire called Peritraumatic Distress Index (CPDI) was designed to capture peritraumatic distress among the general population of China. Since then, CPDI was adapted for use in general population in Peru and Italy. Similar tool is not available for the Croatian setting.  Present research aimed at adapting the tool to measure peritraumatic distress among staff in two hospitals in Croatia (N=177). Present research aimed to examine the internal consistency and validity of the Croatian version of the CPDI. Additionally, levels of peritraumatic distress caused by the pandemic were explored among medical and non-medical professionals. The Croatian CPDI showed an internal-consistency of Cronbach's α =0.92. The scale was relevant with good face and content validity, following the integrated method of adaptation. The associations between CPDI and  DASS-21, IES-R and PCL-C were explored to analyze the validity of the scale. The results indicate that the Croatian version of the CPDI scale is a valid rapid screening instrument. Such instrument may allow quick detection of the professionals working in the health system with increased peritraumatic distress during the pandemic.
