Abstract

COVID-19 has impacted all facets of life in Jordan and worldwide, which created real crises especially for the workforce. The crisis hit hard causing unemployment, poverty, and increased social problems. This study aims to explore the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the socio-economic status of the workforce in Jordan, the effectiveness of government’s measures, and the lessons learned as perceived by stakeholders. A random sample of 541 workers was drawn from the north, middle, and south of Jordan using the quantitative and qualitative methods of questionnaire (n=520) and interview (n=21). The results revealed that the pandemic has severely affected the social and economic status and that the effectiveness of the government’s reaction to the pandemic was moderate. The study concludes with the lesson learned, suggested solutions, implications, and recommendations for future research.
