This study includes a critical analysis of the texts published by the World Health Organization (WHO) on its official website (who.int) on the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has taken its place among the most important epidemics in history, which has been on the world agenda since the last quarter of 2019 and has reached a global dimension by increasing its impact today. WHO, whose explanations regarding this epidemic are carefully monitored, makes statements to the global public at various times around the world. In this context, WHO's explanations about the existence of COVID-19 were analyzed with critical discourse analysis modeling in terms of representation and meaning. The importance of WHO's discourse in the media stems from its position as an opinion leader worldwide. This situation has revealed the necessity of examining the discourses of WHO towards global public opinion in sociological and contextual level. These discourses, legitimized by news texts, ensure the reproduction of their representations in the real world. In order to examine these representations, the texts (news bulletins and statements) on the official website of WHO have been handled. According to the findings of the research conducted on a total of 82 texts between January 1, 2020 and November 30, 2020, WHO is not only publishing clear, clear and transparent informative messages about COVID-19, but also in unity, solidarity and joint power sharing and reliable information sharing on the epidemic. It has been found. It has been concluded that WHO shares content and acts globally that reproduce its position as the public leader in health services and all health-related issues. |
